Finally today I leave you with an older story, but one that shows how conference commisoners only look out for their own when making NCAA rules. Mike Slive opposes a rule that would require a team to win their conference championship to play for the national title.

Rumors have been swirling that Memorial Stadium would not be ready in time for the Cal Bears to host Nevada on September 1st. According to a recent article by Jeff Faraudo, those rumors were debunked by Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour.

Barbour says that the stadium will be ready for the game:

barring some kind of natural disaster.

The renovations on Memorial Stadium, which opened in 1923, began in November of 2010 and cost $321 million. The construction also forced the team to play games at AT&T Park last year, prompting quarterback Zach Maynard to express his excitement:

It’ll be my first time playing in Memorial Stadium. I’m very excited.

I’ll be sure to keep an eye on any new rumors, but it seems to me that fans should feel safe to make plans to attend the game in Berkeley.
